Pros
- Schengen-accredited
- Strikes & hijacking coverage
- 24/7 emergency assistance hotline
Cons
- Expensive
- Does not cover existing medical conditions
- Does not cover aerial activities
The TravelJoy Plus is under the joint venture of Prudential Guarantee and Assurance, Inc. and Sompo Holdings – one of the top non-life insurance companies in Japan.
Being Schengen-accredited means that you can travel to any Schengen countries such as France, Italy, and Germany without a visa. This speaks volumes when it comes to the credibility of the TravelJoy Plus.
They have Full Terrorism Cover which you can get for all of their plans. You will be covered if you happen to be in the middle of hijacking in another country.
We generally find that it offers a wide coverage and a variety of benefits compared to other travel insurances.
We are glad to know that TravelJoy Plus offers a 24/7 emergency assistance hotline because it is important for travelers to know that they can contact the insurance company any time.
Plan prices range from 20,000 up to 90,000 depending on the coverage that you will be getting. They offer Budget, Standard and Supreme premiums, which can suit different budgets. The price is quite steep, but we think it’s worth checking out.
Something to keep in mind is that they will not cover any existing medical conditions, although this is pretty common among most travel insurances. This area is typically covered by health insurance.
If you’re into aerial activities, this might not be for you since they also will not cover it unless you are a professional.

Pros
- Additional COVID coverage
- Child Guard feature
- Advance of Money coverage
Cons
- A few complaints of complicated insurance claims
- Delayed chat response
Etiqa Philippines, formerly known as AsianLife & General Assurance Corporation, is based in Malaysia but offers services to Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore and Cambodia.
They are one of the leading insurance companies in Singapore, which says a lot about their credibility. Even so, many people appreciate that they offer one of the cheapest plans in the travel insurance market.
Etiqa’s Travel Insurance Plan is designed to help travelers protect themselves from unforeseen events when out and about. It covers flight delay, cancellation, and baggage lost – just to name a few.
You can calculate your premium by simply going to their website and inputting information like type of travel, departure and return date. It is very straightforward and easy to navigate.
We were impressed that they offer additional COVID coverage, which is required by some countries that have a strict policy in terms of health. However, this covers international travel for individuals aged 0 to 65 only.
For as low as P700, you can get travel insurance from Etiqa, which is great if you are on a tight budget. Although limited, this is still better than getting no insurance at all.
Many people have noted that the Child Guard coverage is great because it covers a roundtrip flight of an immediate family member to look after a minor abroad if they are hospitalized.
We’re just hoping that they will improve their overall customer service. A few people have noted that they have quite a complex insurance claim process that has more back-and-forth than necessary.
There are also people who complain that they have delayed chat responses. We hope they improve their responsiveness to give people a better experience with their service.

Pros
- Free policy cancellation
- Medicine delivery and emergency dental care coverage
- Aircraft hijacking coverage
Cons
- Reporting claims take time
- Complicated quotation process
Mapfre Insular International Travel Insurance is co-owned by Insular Life Assurance Co. Ltd. which is one of the most reputable insurance companies in the country. They are also recognized by the Insurance Commission.
We were impressed because they have very unique coverages that are not typically covered by travel insurance. Take medicine delivery, for example – they can reimburse this for you.
Unlike other travel insurance companies, they offer free cancellation of your premium. This comes in handy since some companies charge expensive fees if you wish to cancel.
A lot of travel insurance companies cover major surgeries and accidents, but Mapfre Insular International Travel Insurance takes it a step further and offers emergency dental care.
Another good thing about their plans is that you will get aircraft hijacking coverage. A few people have noted that they feel more safe knowing that this is covered, especially today’s uncertain times.
Getting a quotation requires a lot more information compared to the other ones on our list. You’ll need to provide your SSS or GSIS number, TIN number, annual net income and more before you can get a price quote, which we find very inconvenient.
Upon checking reviews and interviewing a few customers, it seems that processing a claim takes longer than the few minutes they advertise. Some people said it might take days or weeks, depending on the situation.
We are hoping that they would also improve on their customer service relations. When you visit their Facebook page, you’ll notice a number of people commenting that they haven’t received a response for days.

Pros
- Great COVID-19 coverage
- A variety of add-ons to customize your plan
- 24-hour emergency assistance
Cons
- No coverage for fragile items and art pieces
- Expensive
Chubb Travel Insurance operates in 54 different countries such as Australia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, and Korea, to name a few. They have been operating in the country for more than 60 years and have insured more than 100,000 travelers.
This travel insurance company offers the most customizable plan that you can have on our list. If you’re looking into getting premiums that pretty much cover everything, this might be a good option for you.
One of the highlights of Chubb Travel Insurance is that their COVID-19 coverage is spot on. A few people have commented that they were able to complete their quarantine without having to pay anything.
If you have a specific interest when you’re traveling, you have the option to have add-ons to your plans, such as their comprehensive sports coverage.
Another great thing about Chubb Travel Insurance is their 24/7 emergency assistance. Just in case something happens to you during your trip, you can call them anytime and access accommodating and friendly service, which customers vouch for.
Chubb Travel Insurance is definitely up there in the price range. It will still depend on the package and add-ons that you will choose, but compared to the other insurance on our list, it is still pretty expensive.
If you are planning on purchasing delicate items like glassware or artwork from other countries, keep in mind that this is excluded from their plans. You can opt for other insurance companies that cover this matter.

Pros
- Emergency dental care
- Aircraft hijacking coverage
- Concise coverage plan
Cons
- No 24/7 emergency hotline
- Slow response
Fortune General has been serving various businesses and individuals for 65 years now. By the end of 2020, their net worth was close to P1.0 billion – which says a lot about their credibility and trustworthiness.
They offer a very simple and uncomplicated travel insurance, with very basic coverage. This includes personal accidents, flight delays and trip cancellation, to name a few.
This is perfect for people who are not very adventurous when it comes to traveling and would only need essential coverage for medical expenses, emergencies, and personal belongings.
We were pleasantly surprised to learn that you can receive dental care even when you’re outside the country. This is not very common in most basic travel insurance plans.
Included in their plan is aircraft hijacking coverage, which helps people traveling to foreign countries feel more at ease. This is a great feature since not all insurance for travel has this.
Unfortunately, they do not offer 24/7 travel assistance, which can be inconvenient if you happen to have an emergency beyond their office hours. You’ll have to wait until the next morning to file your claim if the incident happened at night.
A few people also noted that they do not respond as fast as other hotlines. Hopefully, they can work on this so that they can address customer needs with a better sense of urgency.
